|Location||Queen Street, Glasgow|
|Requirement||Bearing piles for tower crane|
|Main Contractor||ISG Construction|
TechnikGS were contracted to provide the design and installation of the piling works to support a tower crane base.
The existing City Centre multi storey building was undergoing an extensive renovation and required a crane within the central core to facilitate these works.
Space was a premium as part of the already small carpark had to remain live throughout these works.
- Restricted access and 2.45m headroom requirements.
- Strict vibration and noise requirements.
- Careful planning of storage and cement/reinforcement deliveries.
- Tight programme
21 micropiles were installed using our modified Klemm 702 rig. The nominal 200mm diameter flush grout piles were installed to a depth of 12m and the project was completed within a week.
The site conditions were ideal for a site batched grout to enable full control of the mixes without the reliance on concrete wagons arriving outwith the strict delivery slots.
A sacrificial pile was statically tested in tension to confirm our design assumptions.
